Day 32

Dear Diary,

We lost Rashida and Omar. I am lucky I did not lost Bibi is because our belts are tied together. There is water in the boat! The water level is up to my waist! Bibi and I scoop the water out of the boat with our vegetable tins. It is hopeless. There is still a lot of water in the boat. Even the sailors are in the water, struggling to get up onto the boat. We are very cold. We continued scooping the water, as I thought about my Dad's ancestor, baking loaf after loaf of bread. Bibi was totally exhausted. Bibi had been scooping for a very long time. A lot of men can't believe that she can keep going for that long and don't understand. I know why. The reason is that her father was a baker that have perseverance.

Day 30

Dear Diary,

Then people started to shout. There is another boat coming towards us! For a moment I thought it was Mum and Dad's boat. The men on the other boat are holding weapons! I realised that they are pirates. I hold Bibi closer to me. Several pirates jump onto our deck. I thought the smugglers would fight with the pirates, but instead, they shook hands with the pirates. Rashida thinks that they are abandoning us. She is right, they took all our money and wanted to run away. The pirates are very cruel. One of them drag a woman to the deck and took off their blankets and coats. I understood now. They are not looking for money, they are looking for girls without their parents. Bibi and Rashida are in trouble. Omar and I quickly helped them to disguise as boys. Then we practised football skills, hoping that nothing would happen to us. The pirate grinned. He tried to kick my football but failed and he fell down. He turned furious. He kicked me hard on my hips. It hurts a lot. I beg Bibi not to attack the pirates. She did not. Omar was holding her tightly. Rashida rubbed my hips. Tears began to trickle down my cheek. Finally the pirates are gone.
My hips are really painful but I felt grateful that we all are safe.
The smugglers had abandoned us.
We are all starving.
We are alone, in the middle of the ocean, a group of desperate people and three scared sailors.
I prayed hard.

Day 29

Dear Diary,

We had been on the boat for six days. Bibi was sad. It was her birthday. Everyone wished her 'Happy Birthday'. I pity her. We plan to hold a party for her when we reached Australia. We talked about what the government would give her. Later, we found out that Rashida was born in Australia. She told us about her story. Her relatives were killed in the war. She had to returned to Afghanistan to met her grandfather. The government wouldn't let her go back to Australia. I felt sorry for her relatives. Then I thought about my relatives and parents.

We have to pay or else the sailors will turn back to afghanistan. Omar, Bibi and I do not have any money. We are stunned and frightened. I handed them the two loaves of bread, but the sailor claimed that it is not enough. Then Rashida handed them a watch. Her watch saved us. I heaved a sigh of relief. I thanked her profusely. The sailors start the boat again.
As we continued our journey, I prayed hard that this incident would not occur to my parents.

Day 24

Dear Diary,

The journey to Australia is not so good. Omar had been throwing up. We are now starving. I am missing Dad an Mum. Two sailors are distributing noodle soup. I am worried that the sailor would not give Bibi a proper serving. If we do not reach our tins out enough, he would pull us closer by grabbing the arms. One girl asked for more food, the sailor shout at her. She protested. Bibi spoke up for her. The girl then advised Bibi not to. The girl glanced at him.

At this point of time, I liked the girl already.

Day 23

Dear Diary,

I have to move fast. We told the sailors that we are on the wrong boat but they ignored us. Bibi scolded the sailors. Those sailors are really cruel. No matter how hard we pleaded hem, they still ignored us. On second thought, I feel that we better not made them angry or they would not bring us to Australia. We have to remain calm.

Bibi starts to cry. She was worried that she cannot meet Mum again. Suddenly, someone from behind said that her parents are on the other boat too. The boy came to us and handed my precious football to me. He is called Omar. We feel so lucky to be in this boat now, unhurt.

I really hope we can meet our parents as fast as possible.

We tried to go over to the other boat but the gap between the two boats is wider and wider. We stared at each other helplessly. What will happen to Bibi and I without Dad and Mum?

I grab Bibi hands, but she let go and wanted to retrieve the football in the water. I told not to, but she ignored me. She used a stick to reach the ball.

Then the boy, who tricked me, said he would get it. He reached down to the water with the stick. Unluckily, he lost his balance and fell into the water. I yelled for help, but to no avail Everyone was rushing. I told the sailor to help but he ignored me. Bibi kicked him. He knocked her down. The sailor threw Bibi to the over side of the boat. I wanted to help but I was too dizzy.
